• New Volkswagen Sedan Coming to India in March 2022

    New Volkswagen Sedan

  • Mid-size sedans are all the rage these days, thanks to their ability to offer sedan class comfort at almost hatchback level prices. Considering their value for money, mid-size sedans fit the Indian market quite well. Recently, Skoda unveiled the Slavia mid-sized sedan slated to replace the outgoing Skoda Rapid. With the dubbed Volkswagen Virtus, the automaker seems to have a similar idea.

While the Virtus aims to replace the now old Vento, the dimensions of the test car spotted are significantly larger. Meaning it will be a significant modern update over the older Vento. The new sedan shares its platform with the Volkswagen Taigun SUV and will feature a similar wheelbase as well. This explains the car's larger size than the outgoing Vento.

  • Talking about the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus's engine specifications, that information is currently unknown. However, Volkswagen has confirmed that the sedan will get only petrol variants. This means that while the Vento's 110bhp 1.0-litre petrol plant could do duties in the Virtus, it could also get a high-performance variant with a 1.5-litre TSI engine previously seen in the Taigun, capable of 150bhp and 250Nm. The Virtus may get turbocharged and naturally-aspirated variants in the 1.0-litre option as well. Transmission options are bound to include a six-speed manual as well as automatic six-speed torque converter options, while the larger 1.5-litre unit will most likely get Taigun's DSG automatic gearbox only.

Features in the Virtus are most likely to be similar to its SUV sibling. This means it could benefit from a 10.25-inch infotainment system along with a couple of other creature comforts and features.

The Virtus is already an offering in international markets and is slated to get a facelift, which is most likely when Volkswagen intends to release it in the Indian market. The sedan is speculated to debut in March 2022, with its eventual release in the coming months. The upcoming Volkswagen sedan will compete with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and the upcoming Skoda Slavia.

  • Potentially, the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus could be priced around the ₹9 lakh to ₹12 lakh mark (Ex-Showroom). For more information on the upcoming Volkswagen sedan, or information on other Volkswagen cars in India, such as their on-road price, check out autoX's price section.
